Menopause is delat with minimally in TV shows, except those written by women for women. My favourite show Ab Fab occasionally delved into the subject eg in episode 28 when the following conversation occurs:

Saffy: But Mom, menopause can be a very exhilarating and positive experience for a woman.

Eddie: Oooh, yes. And the curse is a blessing and childbirth is painless.

Or in the following scene:

Jobo: Come on sisters. We’re getting nowhere… My name is Jobo, and I’m happy to be having the menopause - I have hot flashes and cramps, and sometimes when I sneeze, I pee.”

Beth De Woodi: The sands of time are trickling through my hour glass!

Patsy Stone: I hope you’re wearing thick underpants!

And then there were The Golden Girls. Remember when Blanche goes through menopause?

Dorothy: Look at it this way, Blanche; you don’t get cramps once a month, you don’t go on eating binges once a month, you don’t get crazy once a month. Sophia: You just grow a beard.  

Two of my personal favourite quotes are:

I used to be a spring chicken- now I’m just an old boiler!

and

They are not hot flashes. They are either “personal summers” or “my inner child playing with matches!”

You just have to laugh or else you would cry!
