I’m a 50-something, Aussie, part time teacher, full time mum who just wants to share her menopause journey with the world! If the world cares…..!! This blog records my journey through menopause…. a trip all women take, some willingly, others by being pushed onto the bus! If you accidentally stumbled on this page while surfing the net for sites on Menopause don’t click out straight away! This site is designed to give you a little light relief as you search for information, and make you smile as you read something you can relate to.
Before I start, what’s with this word “menopause”? Doesn’t that imply a pause in mense/menstruation? What are they on about? It’s not a pause…it’s a termination!!! It should be called menocease or menotermination!!
Let’s face it, there are 1000’s of bits of information about menopause on the Internet. And let’s be honest, most of them say the same thing:
- What is menopause?
- What are the symptoms?
- How can you manage it?
- HRT or natural?
- etc etc…..ad nauseum
And they are so serious…which can be good, in small doses, when there is something specific you want to know. However most women I know cope with menopause by using humour and doing what we do best…talking about it with our friends and commiserating & laughing together as we compare symptoms.
Women want to be able to chat with other women going through “the change” (Yuk, what an awful expression!) and swap stories. We want to be able to laugh and cry together about the myriad of emotional and physical changes we notice……. and we want to be reassured that whatever we are experiencing someone else, somewhere in the world is experiencing the same thing.
So the idea of this blog arose. The seed for this idea was planted when I attended a performance of “Menopause the Musical”. There was a theatre full of women, of all ages and backgrounds, and all laughing uproariously & relating to the songs and dialogue.
Menopause does have a funny side and, as e.e. cummings so beautifully put it:
”The most wasted of all days is one without laughter..”
and by the way:
“Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and yes, you too will one day go through menopause!“
